Young Bryan-College Station readers can get books for 50¢ at book sale
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A local nonprofit is keeping kids in mind during its annual book sale.
Friends of the Library Bryan-College Station will host its young readers book sale this Saturday with deals that can’t be beat.
The second floor of the Clara B. Mounce Public Library in downtown Bryan will have a wide variety of new books to stock your home or classroom libraries.
“This sale is completely about kids,” Summer Adams, president of Friends of the Library, said. “We’ve got kids books from baby to teenager.”
There will be thousands of books to shop including board books, sci-fi, fiction, and graphic novels.
Each book is new or gently used, and will cost $1.00 for hardback books and 50 cents for paperback books.
“It’s going to be a treasure hunt,” promised Adams.
The book sale opens at 9 a.m. to Friends of the Library members. Families can also sign up for a membership at that time.
It’ll open to the general public at 10 a.m. and will run until 2 p.m.
The funds from the book sale go toward the Bryan + College Station Public Library System.
“These book sales are hugely important to the summer reading programs, to the backpack program, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, some of the databases, the public use of copiers, and the recognition and training that the staff gets,” Adams explained.
The next big initiative the nonprofit will support is the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge.
This is an August reading challenge where kids 6 to 12 years old can read three books on wildfire prevention or the environment to earn activity badges.
“In the end, what we’re doing is having a Smokey Bear birthday party. One at Ringer and one at Mounce,” added branch manager Derika Bailey. “The Texas A&M Forest Service is coming out, and they’re bringing Smokey Bear.”
Once again, the young readers book sale will be Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mounce Library.
