Weekend Gardener : How to attract humming birds and other rare wildlife to your backyard
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Experts say April is a great time to see hummingbirds migrating, and you may have some visit your yard if you have the right conditions.
“You can use one of the Hummingbird feeders and provide that nectar,” said Jayla Fry with Texas A&M AgriLife.
Fry says you can put feeders out to attract the birds, but there are certain types of plants you can put in your yard as well.
“I do like to recommend using some natural sources like the Salvia Greggii plant,” she added.
Welcoming plants to your garden, things that will serve as food sources or that double as a shelter for wildlife will also help.
“Whether they’re birds, squirrels, or other things these are wonderful homes for them as well,” said Fry.
And because now is the beginning of the spring season it’s a great time to start planting and hanging your feeders.
