Weekend Gardener: Hibiscus plants
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – If you want to add a tropical feel in your garden, try a hibiscus plant.
“This is a hybrid called peppermint flair,” said Stephen Brueggerhoff with Texas A&M AgriLife while pointing out a plant at the Leach Teaching Gardens. “I love members of this particular plant family. They make a great statement in the garden. They put a lot of color in the garden and bonus, it blooms most of the summer long.”
Brueggerhoff said you can plant it throughout the year.
“The only challenge is you’ve gotta give a little bit of extra care during the summer to make sure that the plant is well-established. Maybe a little more water than you normally would, so just taking a little bit of care will help it get established in the summer time,” he said.
