Volunteers needed for Bonfire Memorial cleaning ahead of this year’s Remembrance Ceremony

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Each year, the community honors the 12 Aggies who died during the tragic Bonfire collapse of 1999.

There is a Bonfire Remembrance Ceremony hosted on November 18 on the anniversary.

Leading up to the ceremony, volunteers can help in the preparation process.

The Texas A&M University Art Galleries work with volunteers to clean and preserve the Bonfire Memorial on campus before the ceremony.

“It involves washing by hand each of the portals, drying them off, and waxing them as well which can take a long time to do, which is why we try to get as many people to help as possible,” said Amanda Neel, Collections Manager for Stark Galleries – Texas A&M University.

Cleaning is November 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shifts are 2 hours each.
