Ukrainian Club at Texas A&M host exhibit to display Ukrainian heritage and attire

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) -Saturday will mark two years since Russia invaded Ukraine, and now efforts are continuing to preserve the rich heritage of Ukrainian culture.

The Ukrainian Club at Texas A&M University recently organized an event showcasing Ukrainian national clothing from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Held under the theme “Ukrainian Heritage for Cultural Diplomacy,” the exhibition provided a unique glimpse into the diverse cultural history of Ukraine.

The costumes and clothing, part of a private collection, were curated to represent different regions of Ukraine.

Natalka Sturgill and Olenka Bravo, the owners of the collection, played a pivotal role in preserving these traditional garments, which date back to a bygone era.

The showcase aimed to highlight the cultural richness of Ukraine, inviting attendees to appreciate the intricate details of the costumes and gain insights into the nation’s historical attire.

The Ukrainian Club’s commitment to preserving history extends beyond the exhibition. The emphasis lies on remembering and narrating Ukraine’s cultural journey, acknowledging the challenges posed by external factors.

Natalia Kolomiyets, President of the Ukrainian Club at Texas A&M University, says it’s important to keep what’s happening in Ukraine in the spotlight.

”It’s very important to believe in Ukraine, stand with Ukraine and support Ukraine so that we can get back our territories, that people can go home, and that we can live in peace,” said Kolomiyets.

The Ukrainian Club at Texas A&M will be holding a movie screening on Wednesday commemorating the human loss of the conflict.
