Tyler Shaw named KBTX sports director
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – KBTX Media is proud to announce Tyler Shaw will take over as the station’s sports director on August 4.
Shaw will replace longtime sports director Darryl Bruffett, who has served in that role at KBTX since December 1990. Bruffett retires from his day-to-day role at the station August 3.
Shaw has been the weekend sports anchor at KBTX since June 2019. He previously worked at Gray affiliate KCWY in Casper, Wyoming.
“When we hired Tyler five years ago, I wasn’t considering retiring, but was hoping he was still going to be here when I stepped down,” said Bruffett.
“Tyler has the same desire to cover local sports as I have and in my mind was a natural fit. I am so proud to hand over the reins to him and see where he takes KBTX Sports. I told him I am here to help if he has any questions, but have watched him grow over the five years I have worked alongside him and he is ready for me to get out of his way,” Bruffett added jokingly.
Shaw grew up in McKinney and graduated from Boyd High School. He went to college at Brigham Young University and graduated with a BA in Communications. As a student in Provo, he was a part of the university’s weekly sports show and interned for Salt Lake City’s NBC affiliate, KSL.
Tyler and his wife Khali live in Bryan along with their daughter Jenny.
