Two men arrested for possessing around $70,000 worth of marijuana
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Bryan Police have arrested two men on drug possession charges. According to arresting documents the men had 56 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $70,000.
Police took Keeon Kelly, 20, and Jakeith Jones, 30, into custody Thursday. The arrests come after police conducted a search on a third individual’s phone which showed several messages relating to drug purchases.
Police were conducting surveillance on a home in the 2400 block of Berger and saw Jones get into a car with a backpack. Police conducted a traffic stop after Jones failed to signal for a turn. During the stop, other officers returned to the residence and witnessed Kelly “frantically removing large suitcases from within the residence” and placing them inside a vehicle.
Officers stopped Kelly and located around 56 pounds of marijuana, much of which was separated into smaller, black, vacuum-sealed packages. Police also located and recovered a gun underneath the driver’s seat.
After getting a search warrant approved, officers went through the house on Berger and located two bottles of suspected Promethazine, a common ingredient in cough syrup.
Kelly was arrested and booked into the Brazos County Jail on multiple charges including possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a weapon. His bonds total $68,000.
Jones was booked into the Brazos County Jail on one charge of possession of marijuana more than 50 pounds, but less than 200 pounds. His bond is set at $60,000.
