Tornado WATCH issued for portions of the Brazos Valley
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – For the second time in as many days, the majority of the Brazos Valley is under a Tornado WATCH until 5pm.
While this is the second day in a row a tornado watch has been issued, it is worth noting atmospheric conditions look decidedly more favorable for tornadic storms today.
Folks at @NWSSPC have taken note as well. Would expect a tornado WATCH to be issued before noon.
All ingredients present for severe weather today. Just a question of where and when. We’ll keep you posted! https://t.co/0GBsUFrJ24 pic.twitter.com/ZpufYGqe6O

The key ingredients for strong thunderstorms (moisture, instability, and rotating/increasing wind with height) are notably present in the atmosphere today. The only thing missing, at the moment, is a trigger, or lift, for storms to begin forming. That is what we will be watching for throughout the day. In today’s instance, cloud cover may keep a lid on the atmosphere until this evening, but enough sunshine/warming could allow some additional storms to form over the course of the day, especially across our northern counties.
While the risk for tornados is heightened today, we have no reason to panic. This is a fairly typical mid-spring setup, that will require monitoring over the course of the next ~18 hours or so. Updates can be found on air when necessary, and all our digital platforms, including the KBTX Weather App.
