The Theatre Company of Bryan-College Station to present ‘Cinderella’
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Theatre Company of Bryan-College Station is preparing to present a classic story.
Its second show of the season is Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” It kicks off Friday and will run for three weekends.
“If you saw the version with Brandy and Whitney Houston or the one from the 60s with Lesley Ann Warren, it’s very much that vibe,” director Adrienne Dobson said.
This new Broadway version includes more characters including Jean-Michelle. It also gives more depth to some of the characters including Cinderella.
The role is being played by Lauren Moore. She described Cinderella as strong.
“My character really wants to go to the Prince to tell him about the injustices that are happening in his Kingdom,” Moore said. “There’s people that are having their land taken away from them, and she just knows that there’s something that he needs to know, that it’s happening.”
George Joubran is playing Prince Topher and said the role has also been expanded.
“Whenever he meets Cinderella, she gets to show him what’s happening in his Kingdom, opens his eyes, brings out some character in him and shows him the king that he wants to be,” Joubran said.
Audrey Cook and Lily Van Zandt portray stepsisters Gabrielle and Charlotte.
Both said they have enjoyed getting into character and challenging themselves with the roles.
Along with seeing characters in a new light, the audience can expect a lot of great music, according to the director.
Classic tunes including “Impossible,” “In My Own Little Corner” and “A Lovely Night” are in the show.
