Texas A&M begins season ranked 20th in AP poll
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M football will begin the season ranked Number 20 in the preseason Associated Press Top 25, released Monday.
The ranking nod marks the 35th time in history the Aggies began the season in the AP Top 25, a total that ranks 18th historically. A&M’s average rank in the AP preseason Top 25 is 12.4, according to College Poll Archive.
Ohio State holds the record for most preseason appearances with 70. The AP Top 25 began in 1950.
The Aggies are one of nine Southeastern Conference programs featured in the first AP poll, led by Georgia at No. 1. In-state rival Texas comes in at No. 4 and Alabama rounds out the top five at No. 5.
A&M’s will open the season on Aug. 31 with a ranked matchup as Notre Dame earned a No. 7 ranking.
The Aggies were also ranked 20th in the nation in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll.
