Taste new wines, learn, shop at 40th Annual Wine & Roses Festival
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Messina Hof invites the community to enjoy springtime, vines and good wine this weekend.
The winery is hosting its 40th Annual Wine & Roses Festival Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The day will offer wine tastings, local vendors and food and wine pairing classes.
In March, the winery released three new off-dry wines. There’s a great balance between dry and semi-sweet, according to the winery’s marketing manager Gina Graves.
“Anybody who maybe isn’t into too dry or isn’t into too sweet, these will be really perfect for them, and Wine & Roses will give them that chance to give these three a tasting, of course, as well as plenty of our other wines in the portfolio,” Graves said.
Whether enjoying new or familiar wines, Graves said attendees will have several opportunities to learn more about the wine-making process.
“They can get up close and personal with the vines here,” Graves said. “They’re growing day by day. They’ll be even bigger by Saturday.”
Those who attend the festival can also play a part in choosing future labels for the bottles. It partners with the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley to host an art competition. Work from 10 different artists will be on display, and attendees will be able to vote on their favorite one. The artist with the most votes will have their artwork featured on a future label. This year’s theme is symmetry.
“Artists really put their heart and soul into what they feel best represents that theme, and it’s beautiful to see how differently they can connect to the same topic,” Graves said.
Another staple is the grape stomp competition. Teams will go head-to-head to see who can fill their pitcher up with the most grape juice.
“We have 32 teams registered with some very creative names coming into play,” Graves said. “We’ve got ‘pour decisions,’ we’ve got ‘we got the juice’ with another one as ‘unstompable.’”
Ticket packages for the event are still available. Those can be found here.
