Take a trip to the 80s with College Station High’s ‘Rock of Ages: Teen Edition’
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – College Station High School’s theatre wants to take you back to the 80s with its upcoming musical.
It’s presenting “Rock of Ages: Teen Edition” starting Thursday, January 25, in the school’s auditorium.
The musical shares the story of a small-town girl and a big-city guy who are on a mission to make their dreams come true in Hollywood.
“There’s a little bit of a love story and then there are complications that come when we’ve got rock stars coming in and we see whether or not they make their dreams come true or if their dreams change along the way,” director Stacy Erskin said.
The show is a more family-friendly version compared to the movie and Broadway show, according to Erskin. Although, there are some similarities.
“Just like the Broadway version and the movie, it’s got all of those fun songs that we remember,” Erskin said.
The audience will hear classics including “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison and “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey.
“The kids have been picking it up so great and just singing their hearts out and absolutely rocking out,” the musical director Katy Zorn said.
Students have also played a big role in the set’s design, building and lighting.
“We’ve spent a lot of time on this set,” technical director Larry Robinson said. “It’s been a work of art for us.”
