String of vehicle burglaries in Robertson County and neighboring counties
ROBERTSON COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – A string of vehicle burglaries hit Robertson, Limestone and Falls counties in the middle of the night on August 7.
Police say 10 vehicles in Robertson County were burglarized in the resident’s driveway in the middle of the night.
All vehicles were unlocked at the time, making it easy for the thief to grab and go.
Robertson County Sheriff’s Office says a possible suspect has been arrested on unrelated charges, and they believe there is a tie between the car burglaries in all three counties.
Bill Ruland, Chief Deputy at the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, says to lock your doors and remove any firearms from your vehicle.
One Robertson County resident says his truck was broken into, but was shocked to find out nothing was taken.
“I guess I’m pretty stupid, too, for not locking my truck,” he said. “The strange thing was all the change I had in there and some other items of value that were in there were not taken.”
After law enforcement learned vehicles were also hit in Limestone and Falls counties, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office quickly connected those burglaries to the ones they were investigating.
“They are counting on people being asleep,” Ruland said. “They’re counting on the dark, and they’re preying on vehicles that are parked close to the road.”
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office says most of the burglaries happened along Owensville Cemetery Road.
“One of those things where it’s kinda like muscle memory,” a resident said. “You know where items are in your vehicle, and then you get in there, and you’re like this doesn’t seem right, and sure enough, some stuff was moved.”
The sheriff’s office reminds everyone to take personal items out of their vehicle and lock them up.
To help deter potential thieves, law enforcement says if you have any lights outside to turn them on, especially at night.
“Lock your vehicles, and if you have lights on outside, you probably ought to use them,” Ruland said. “Just to light the area up.”
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call Robertson County CrimeStoppers at 800-299-0191. There is still an ongoing investigation.
