Step into a storybook at Bryan High’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Bryan High School’s Viking Theatre wants to take you on a trip to Wonderland.
The group is gearing up for its final production of the school year, “Alice in Wonderland,” and it’ll mimic the original story created by Lewis Carroll in 1865.
“We want it to feel like a storybook come to life,” director Braedon Lawless said.
The play will introduce the audience to Alice, a young girl who falls through a looking glass and ends up in a reverse world named Wonderland.
While there, she encounters an array of unique characters including the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts.
“Our hair and makeup team and our costume crew, they’ve worked relentlessly to try to make this show have its own style, and they do all types of wacky, fun things,” Lawless said. “We were doing a costume parade the other day, and everyone just looked amazing and it’s so cool to see all these characters come to life.”
The show will be held in Byran High’s Blue Auditorium. This is the first time it’s been used by the directors, Lawless and Forrest Gamble.
“We needed the stage space, and we just haven’t utilized the proscenium stage that we have here recently,” Gamble said. “It was a big pull, it’s a new experience for a lot of our students to have a full-length play in this space.”
“Alice in Wonderland” will also mark one of the company’s largest casts. There are 55 cast and crew members.

Gamble and Lawless said everyone can enjoy this show.
“It gives our actors the chance to just have a fun performance geared toward entertaining the kids who always have the best reactions because of the magic on stage,” Gamble said. “It’s also great for our parents because what parent isn’t going to want to see their kid have a great time.”
