St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway ‘Early Bird Prize’ deadline Thursday, support families seeking treatment
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Thursday is the Early Bird Prize deadline for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway.
If you get your ticket before Thursday night, you are put in the running to win the St. Jude Dream Home in College Station plus the bonus prize of American Airlines AAdvantage Miles, valued at $5,000.
For every $100 ticket you reserve, you help continue the life-saving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Michelle’s son Tyler began his battle with cancer at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2013.
“I think the only thing I heard was, ‘Your child has cancer.’ At that time, they didn’t know exactly what kind, and your whole world just kind of stops,” said Michelle, the mother of a St. Jude patient. “On February 4, 2013, he was diagnosed with ALL, which is acute lymphoblastic leukemia.”
This wasn’t her family’s first time there. Michelle’s niece also received treatment at St. Jude.
“You walk into this amazing place,” she said. “It’s full of colored walls, pictures and paintings, and life. Even though we were scared, they had just saved my niece and I knew they would save him.”
The same doctors and researchers who helped her niece would go on to do everything in their power to also save Tyler. While at St. Jude, he went through treatment, therapy, studied for school, and fought to overcome ALL.
“Being a mom, I was really worried, scared and nervous, and the doctor looked at me and he said I want to tell you something. He said I’m going to not only make sure that Tyler survives, I’m going to make sure that he thrives,” Michelle said.
After two years and seven months, Tyler was able to leave St. Jude. He is now a healthy 17-year-old boy.
Tyler actually just crossed the finish line this year as a full marathon runner as a hero and survivor, and that would not have been able to happen without St. Jude,” Michelle said.
Every dollar donated during the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway helps support the mission of ending childhood cancer while making sure families like Michelle’s never pay a dime.
“Without that donation, the research can’t continue, families don’t stay together, that next breakthrough might not happen,” Michelle said. “Knowing that Tyler’s form of cancer was only a 4 percent survival rate and it’s 94 percent today is amazing.”
