Several cars broken into, items stolen in Grimes County
ANDERSON, Texas (KBTX) – Grimes County police are searching for answers after a string of car burglaries on multiple rural county roads.
One of the more recent break-ins happened on County Road 212 in Anderson. Several cars were broken into, and some had items stolen from them.
Lauren Patterson’s husband noticed the door of his truck was cracked open, and a closer look revealed his wallet, cash and work tools were gone.
“It’s not just the thousands of dollars we lost in this. I mean, they came to your home while you were sleeping. It messes with your peace of mind, it messes with everything,” said Patterson.
She filed a police report and shared what happened in a Facebook post. Soon after, comments started to roll in from others who had items stolen, reaching beyond County Road 212.
“We had four reports of burglary of motor vehicles that occurred,” Lieutenant Garrett Burleson said.
He’s urging residents in the rural area to stay vigilant and take proper security measures, like keeping vehicles in a well-lit area and setting up cameras.
Their investigation is well underway, and possible leads have turned up.
“We have some potential leads, and we were able to get some latent prints off some of the vehicles, so we have some of those avenues as far as that goes,” said Burleson.
Some of the cars that were broken into were unlocked, however. Burleson is encouraging the public to lock their car doors at night.
Anyone with information relating to these burglaries, is asked to contact the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 873-2151 or submit a tip through Crimestoppers at (936) 873-2000.
