Retail expert shares where to find best Memorial Day deals

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – It’s a great day to save big.

According to experts, you can expect to see major Memorial Day deals on items like indoor and outdoor appliances, electronics and apparel.

Thomas McMillan, Texas A&M Centers for Retailing director, said deals can be found in-store and online. However, he said shoppers should also look out for deals on stores’ mobile apps.

“For instance, Academy Sports & Outdoors, if you buy via their mobile app this weekend, you’ll get an extra $20 off if you spend at least $100,” McMillan said.

Active military members and veterans can also expect an additional 10% off at stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot and Academy, according to McMillan.

Indoor & Outdoor Home Appliances

It’s like the Black Friday weekend for home appliances, according to McMillan.

Stores like Lowe’s are offering up to 40% off on major appliances including washers, dryers and refrigerators.

The store is also offering stacked savings. For example, you can save an additional $50 if you spend $500 and $500 if you spend $2,500.

McMillan said you’ll also see deals like this at Home Depot.

“They have free delivery on purchases of $396 or more, and they have a 24-month special financing deal too,” McMillan said.

Electronics

Amazon is one platform you can expect to see big deals, according to McMillan.

He said items including Fire Sticks, Roku Sticks and Ring doorbells are on sale.

At Best Buy, you can save $100 on tvs like the 55-inch Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV.

You can also find sales on older generations of iPads, tablets and laptops at Best Buy, Walmart and Amazon.

If you’re looking for newer generations, you’ll find better sales later in the year, according to McMillan.

Apparel

It’s prime time for summer clothing, according to McMillan.

That includes swimwear, shorts and short-sleeve shirts.

Old Navy is offering 50% off almost everything, according to its website.

“You’ll see doorbusters at places like JC Penny with up to 60% off,” McMillan said. “Oftentimes, they’ll have an additional coupon, like JC Penney has an extra 25% off coupon this weekend and they have bonus cash.”

Kohl’s is another store offering big savings.

“They’ll have stackable promotions,” McMillan said. “They’ll have a $10 off $25 this weekend, but you’ll also get Kohl’s Cash. You’ll get $5 for every $25 purchase. Plus, they’ve got great prices on t-shirts, like $9.99, shorts, $19.99, and then swimwear at $25.”
