Residents in neighborhood with net paid parking welcomed visitors with lemonade stand

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – It’s the second weekend of events at Kyle Field with nearby neighborhoods open for paid parking.

This new program being tested by the City of College Station kicked off with the soccer match and continued for the George Strait concert to give attendees extra options. The streets in the Southside Historical Neighborhood located just across the street from Kyle Field slowly filled up Saturday.

This option is $25 through ParkMobile. Among those using the neighborhood streets for parking are residents who say they’re ready to welcome visitors.

“My grandbaby, she’s been saying she wants to do a lemonade stand so we decided to do a lemonade stand today to help people walking cool off,” Dastashta Rushin said.

The city imposing paid parking in the neighborhood was a point of controversy for some. This forced some residents to find different spots to park in order to avoid event parking costs or fines. Rushin says her family had to find alternative options during this period, but they’re making the best of it with the stand located on Montclair Ave. along the paid parking options.

“$3 a cup for lemonade and $2 for water. Come out to P’s lemonade stand,” she said.

Numerous neighbors who were out for a walk and visitors coming to the neighborhood to park for the concert stopped by for lemonade throughout the day.

The neighborhood parking is a pilot program, it’s unclear if this will be available for future Kyle Field events.
