Rep. Michael McCaul discusses President Biden’s upcoming State of the Union address
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – President Joe Biden will deliver his annual State of the Union address Thursday live on KBTX. Topics he is expected to discuss include both the economy and border security.
U.S. Representative Michael McCaul (R) joined News 3 at Six Wednesday to discuss what he hopes to hear from the President.
“Well, I think the number one issue certainly back home is the border. I know the president had a recent trip to the border. I’m not sure if anything came out of that but it would be really a great opportunity for him to announce some executive actions that he reversed on day one from the prior Administration that were actually policies that were working,” the representative said. “So, you know a lot of this authority rests with the President himself. Congress has already passed a lot of legislation for instance., you know remain in Mexico is a 30-year-old statute. It’s not necessary for Congress to pass it again for him to enforce it. So, I think it’s more of an Enforcement issue than legislative.”
The congressman plans to attend the State of the Union address. He is bringing a special guest with him.
“I have a very special guest Christy Shamblin the mother of Nicole Gee who was murdered by the suicide bomber at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan and the final days very tragic incident. They killed 13 servicemen and women and about 140 Afghans were blown up by the suicide bomber,” McCaul said. “We want to remind the American people about what happened. But also what can we do in Congress to legislatively, you know ensure that something like this never happens again.”
