Preparing for Total Solar Eclipse less than one month away
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A total solar eclipse will appear over the country in just a few weeks.
April 8, Aggieland will experience 98% totality along with much of Central Texas falling right in the path of the rare occasion. According to NASA, this will take place around 1:40 p.m. Monday, April 8.
Events are happening around Bryan-College Station to mark the event.
Friends of Chamber Music will host a unique event at Century Square. This will start at 1 p.m. with a performance of music written just for the 2024 total solar eclipse, education from experts and free goodies.
“We will have chairs for those who would like to sit we’ll have two TV screens, we’ll have a performance on stage, we’ll have solar glasses for the firstcomers, an instructional talk and educational talk and maybe some questions from the public to be answered, then comes the music accompanying this solar event. Then we have five minutes of silence and music resumes. And if there are any questions following from the guests we will have people answering them,” Friends of Chamber Music Artistic Director, Elena Reece said.
Another event will be happening at Lake Walk. This is an event with Destination Bryan and Texas A&M University’s Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism. Tristan Estrada, the Community Coordinator for Lake Walk, says they’ve partnered with area businesses to bring events, education and fun.
“Guests can expect to have free snow cones and activities while supplies last, and an engaging atmosphere with a live DJ, face painting, and plenty of space for you to set up a picnic blanket or a lawn chair so we can all watch this together,” he said.
Aggieland will experience near totality during the eclipse, but many central Texas communities are preparing for full totality and an increase in visitors. Resources for those looking for events across the Brazos Valley can find many at this link.
