Postal worker saves mail before Jeep goes up in flames near North Zulch

NORTH ZULCH, Texas (KBTX) – Some North Zulch residents are praising a postal worker for his quick action to save mail and packages from his Jeep.

His vehicle went up flames around noon on Thursday outside a home along Highway 39 near FM 1372.

Photos sent to KBTX show a stack of packages and mail in the driveway as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

The postal worker said he first saw smoke coming from the vehicle before stopping and unloading all mail from inside the vehicle.

“He’s perfectly fine,” said Alonda Vazquez who lives nearby. “We were heading out when we saw this happen. We opened our gates so he could come in. He really is a true hero for saving everyone’s mail.”

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately clear.
