Podcast host using platform to bring more light, laughter
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A College Station woman is on a mission to bring more light and laughter to the Brazos Valley and beyond.
Michelle A. Thomas is a mother, veteran, author and host of the Loss, Light & Laughter podcast. It’s an inspirational show about finding laughter after tragedy.
“I wanted to hear about those hard situations where people actually got through,” Thomas said. “I realized we were in a time after COVID where people were really somber. It was almost like they needed permission to laugh, and I’m like it’s okay. You can grieve, then you can laugh again.”
Her first two seasons reached 35 countries, and she’s hoping to inspire even more with season three. It kicked off Tuesday with a new video format.
The show has featured various guests who are pictured on Thomas’ “wall of laughter” in her studio.
“We have shows on the loss of identity, the loss of dignity, the loss of your limbs, that’s something that people experience as well too,” Thomas said. “We even have the loss of childhood, which is a major loss for a lot of people and then I did a show on the loss of good credit.”
Although each story differs, Thomas said there’s always one thing that connects them all.
“The common theme is God,” Thomas said. “They really trust that God is gonna be there for them, that they’re gonna make it through and they all had hope. Even though they were in the midst of despair, they still had hope that it was gonna be better in the future and so they fought for their laughter, they fought for their joy.”
Thomas has too. Divorce changed her life and her family, but she decided to persevere.
“I had to pick myself up, and I had a wonderful church group that really helped to support me and encourage me and really get me back to where I needed to be,” Thomas said. “I made a decision that whatever I go through, no matter how bad it is, I’m gonna give God the glory and I’m gonna turn around and help someone else in their process.”
Her hope is for every viewer and listener to be inspired and reminded that there’s hope.
“They can get through it and they can laugh again and they can help someone else because that’s what it’s all about,” Thomas said. “For you to go through a hard situation in life and to turn around and help someone else, that’s the beauty of it.”
