New Year resolutions: Use simple tools to keep home, life organized
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The new year can be a great time for a refresh, especially for your home and other spaces.
Although it can be overwhelming to start, realtor and home organizer Emily Schuler said there are several tools to make it easy.
Baskets are a staple in Schuler’s home. They can be found in various sizes and can be used in common spaces to hold things like dog toys or pantries to store food and party supplies.
“Things I’m not using as often, I’ll label and I’ll put those up higher in baskets,” Schuler said.
Labels can be found on Amazon and The Container Store.
“I use this Brother labeler and label everything,” Schuler said.
Clear containers are also great because they can be used almost anywhere. Schuler has several in her pantry that vary in size.
“At a glance, if I have a bunch of clear containers, I can see I’m low on this, I’m low on this and it’s easier for making my grocery list,” Schuler said.
In addition, plastic dividers can be helpful in the kitchen, especially in drawers.
“If you need to start somewhere, I would do something like this for your junk drawer,” Schuler said. “It helps categorize the different areas.”
Along with organizing areas around your home, your time is another area that deserves the same attention, according to Schuler.
She recommends using digital calendars like Skylight or paper planners to keep individual and family tasks in one place.
The realtor and home organizer said these resources have been a game changer for her family.
“We start the week, and everyone knows what we have,” Schuler said. “Everyone knows where we need to be.”
