Navasota holds Freedom Fest for fifth year
NAVASOTA, Texas (KBTX) – To celebrate the 4th of July the City of Navasota held its fifth Freedom Fest.
It kicked off with a parade going down Brosig Avenue which traveled down Washington Avenue to 9th Street. Police, residents and even dogs participated. Some people on floats threw out candy to those watching on the sidewalk.
The Carmical family said it was their second year participating, but the first time with a float.
“It’s been a lot of hard work going into this and we’re just here trying to represent the Grimes County community in Navasota. A lot of work went into the preparation for our float,” Andrew Carmical said.
There was live music, local vendors selling food and drinks, inflatables and other activities following the parade at Navasota City Hall.
“We’re overwhelmed with the support from our community and the surrounding communities. We’re excited to welcome everyone here and we always look forward to having people here in downtown,” Taylor Hughes, the Marketing and Communications Manager for the City of Navasota said.
And with plenty of ways to celebrate freedom in Navasota, Carmical said it’s really important to keep holding events like the Freedom Fest. He also thinks it shines a good light on the city.
“It’s Independence Day, the Fourth of July you know, it’s a good time to come together as a community. I like the fact that Navasota is doing this. I think it’s a positive impact on the community,” Carmical said.
To end the night the city celebrated with a firework demonstration.
“We want to put these events on for our community, we want to give them the opportunity to stay local and have a fun fourth and safe and fun Fourth of July and we’re excited to do that for our community every year,” Hughes said.
