National Food Truck Day: JJ’s Snowcones

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Friday is National Food Truck Day. It highlights the more than 30,000 trucks in the U.S. and Canada.

There are several across the Brazos Valley including JJ’s Snowcones.

The business has been in the area for over 40 years, and owner Sarah Thompson incorporated the food truck when she became owner in 2017.

JJ’s Snowcones offers over 60 single flavors like cherry, peach and orange along with over 60 combination flavors like the Caribbean splash, which has mango, pineapple, strawberry and cream.

Employees and customers have created several combination flavors like the Blue Sharpie.

“It’s margarita lemon, blueberry and storm surge, Thompson said. “That’s one of our most popular flavors.”

The business also offers a secret menu and trendy flavors like pickle. She said social media sparked the craze with things like the Dr. Pepper and pickle drink.

“I have had to buy probably 10 times as much pickle juice as I have in the past,” Thompson said.

No matter the flavor preference, Thompson loves connecting with the community over snowcones.

“I have so much opportunity to do profit shares, to give back to the community,” Thompson said. “The biggest thing that I love is one, the payment in snowcones and then seeing people smile and knowing that this is a part of their childhood. They can still come back year after year and enjoy it.”
