Meet the Candidate: Rick Davis – Texas House District 14

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Early voting is now less than two weeks away.

One race some Brazos Valley voters will see on their ballot is Texas House District 14. This week on News 3 at Six, we are getting to know the candidates who want to represent District 14 in Austin, which includes the northwestern part of Brazos County.

John Raney currently holds the District 14 chair. In August, he announced he would not seek reelection in 2024. Two Republicans are running in hopes of filling his seat: Paul Dyson and Rick Davis.

Davis joined News 3 at Six Thursday to discuss why he believes he should take the seat.

“I’m applying for the job of Representative for District 14,” Davis said. “I am not running against Paul Dyson, I have not known him for very long, he seems like a fine fellow. I am running for the office, I am applying for the job. I have a lot of experience. I have 32 years experience as a lawyer, eight of those, I served as a judge. I have advocated for people for the majority of my adult life, advocating for them in court and now I want to advocate for the citizens of the 14th District.”

When it comes to school vouchers, Davis says he favors freedom.

“I am not at all against public schools. I had an excellent primary education in Fort Bend Independent School District and all six of our children were well prepared for Texas A&M by the College Station Independent School District but I do favor the freedom that would come with that,” Davis said.

When it comes to the southern border, Davis says it’s a crisis that was created by the federal government.

“The federal government should be protecting us from this and it’s doing the exact opposite so I support Governor Abbott’s effort I think we need to strengthen them I think we need to do whatever we can that is lawful and legal and constitutional to apprehend the illegal aliens and send them back to where they come from,” Davis said. “I am not against immigration, I am against illegal immigration.”

“We have lived here for 32 years and we are very patriotic we love our country we love our Texas and we love our Brazos Valley,” Davis said.
