Meet the Candidate: Don Sowell – Grimes County Sheriff
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Early voting is one week away. One race Grimes County voters will see on their ballot is County Sheriff.
All three candidates appeared on News 3 at Six this week.
Don Sowell currently holds the position and is running for reelection. Two other candidates are also vying for the position: Michael Donnelly and Travis Rawls.
Sowell has been in office for nearly 30 years and says he hopes to continue to serve our community and combat some of the challenges law enforcement is experiencing.
“It’s a tough business now with open borders, crime all over the country, and law enforcement is experiencing shortages. I’m experiencing them, I’ve got people short in some places and people leave to go other places with better opportunities,” he said.
He says he plans to address a rise in crime by working together with partners.
“I like to put all badges in one hat,” Sowell said. “We coalition with our feds partners, state partners, local partners. When things happen, we assist them and they assist us whether it’s in Grimes County or the region.”
