Meals on Wheels fundraising to expand decades-old kitchen

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Meals on Wheels serves around 500 people throughout the Brazos Valley, but they can’t reach more without a bigger kitchen.

The organization is fundraising with Fries Financial Services, who have committed to matching donations up to $4,000.

Director Kenneth Barnes said the space they’re in used to be a senior center and doesn’t have the kitchen capacity they need to serve more people.

”We would like it to be to where we could do a thousand meals a day and really be able to take care of the area,” he said.

The money they raise will go first to refurbishing their old appliances, some of which are around 50 years old.

”With us expanding the kitchen, expanding the facilities here, we’ll be able to take on more people because our goal is to be able to give meals to everyone who wants one,“ said Brandi Hernandez, a Meals on Wheels volunteer since 2013.

Meals on Wheels accepts donations via check and money order, or you can donate through this link.
