Local hotels are preparing for George Strait to come to College Station in June
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Even though June is three months away, local hotels are already impacted by George Strait taking the stage at Kyle Field.
When the King of Country declared on Tuesday that he was headed to Kyle Field come June 15th, bookings for local hotels soared, and so did their prices.
If someone wants to book a stay for two people in Bryan or College Station for the March 31st weekend, prices range from $60 to around $200 on hotels.com.
Change the date to June 15th, those prices are more than doubled and there is limited availability.
Country music goers who don’t already have a place to stay might be out of luck.
The Events and Marketing Coordinator at Hotel Mccoy, Chloe Weihausen, said their rooms were completely booked within 30 minutes of the announcement.
“Like there are no more rooms available unless a few reservations get canceled, but right now we are pretty much full capacity,” said Weihausen. “Our platform that we use to do bookings, it was at like full capacity so we didn’t even have a chance to market or do anything.”
The Co-General Manager at The Hilton College Station & Conference Center, Marrissa Selby, said their rooms were almost filled by the end of Tuesday and they expect all of them to be booked by the end of Thursday.
“We had quite a few rooms already on the books. We had about 150 rooms available before the announcement and then I want to say that within a few hours, we were close to sold out. So major impact on us within one day,” said Selby.
It’s not just hotels in demand, Craig Sanford the General Manager at Great Escapes RV Resorts said they had around 30 families book with them since George Strait announced his Kyle Field concert.
“We already picked up a lot of revenue just from the concert itself. We’ve got a lot of calls. We had one call here yesterday and this guy said he needed six RV sites and three cabins all in a row. We’ve gotten a lot of traction from this concert alone,” said Sanford.
Sanford says they’re not immune to price hikes either.
“Based on demand, they could go up. So just check our website out, I encourage you to get it while now, and if you wait until the last minute, that price could go up,” said Sanford.
The busy summer weekend already has both hotels and Great Escapes RV Resorts in preparation mode to serve the influx of guests. All three locations are already planning additional activities for guests during their stay.
The George Strait concert is poised to break concert crowd number records and follows a week after Kyle Field hosts an international friendly soccer match between Mexico and Brazil. This means that Brazos Valley hospitality industries are in for a lucrative month.
