Local business donates services to give VFW Post 4692 a fresh coat of paint
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The VFW Post 4692 in Bryan is getting cleaned up and receiving a fresh coat of paint.
In the spirit of Memorial Day, That 1 Painter is donating their services to brighten up the outside of the building.
After seeing the condition of the VFW building, the Bryan/College Station location project manager for That 1 Painter, Cody Meece, decided the post could use a new paint job.
“This failing paint has been failing for about 8 or 9 years now and we wanted to be able to give back to veterans and help our community refreshen up a local business in town,” said Meece.
Attending events offered by the VFW Post for over a decade, Cody desired to give back to a place that gave so much to him.
“I realized I could offer this service for them, for free no pennies out of their pocket whatsoever,” said Meece.
There are several steps to complete the project including power washing the exterior of the building, picking out the specific paint colors, priming the building, and then painting the building.
“This will be a refresh job to make the curb appeal of the local VFW stand out a bit more,” said Meece. “We have this awning back here, a couple of hollow metal doors at the back of the building, and there’s a section of pipes that we will be redoing as well while we’re here.”
Every year, each location of That 1 Painter “Paints it Forward” and donates a painting service for someone in need in their local area.
This year the Bryan/College Station location partnered with the local Sherwin-Williams to donate various materials while they provide the labor.
The oncoming Commander of the V-F-W Post, Leo Rivera, said the building has been around 75 years and this upgrade is much needed.
“Thank you to Code Meece and the Sherwin-Williams team here and the local area, it’s nice that the community is helping out a community service such as the VFW,” said Rivera.
Rivera said that they were originally going to hire a painter, but they can now use that money to go towards other things to help veterans. Rivera said the VFW’s next project is re-vamping their parking lot and upgrading some of the interior.
The project is estimated to take 3 days if the weather permits.
