July 2024 6th wettest since 2000 for Bryan-College Station
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – One location certainly doesn’t tell the story, especially in this month’s case, but the month’s total precipitation at Easterwood Airport will go down as “middle of the road” when compared to the record books.
July was headlined by Hurricane Beryl and an unrelated unusually wet week mid/late month thanks to a stalled trough of low pressure that brought several inches of rain to much of the area.
Many KBTX WeatherWatchers (especially along and east of Highway 6) reported as many as 3-5″ or much more from Beryl alone, with some closer to a foot of rain between the two rainfall events.
At Easterwood Airport, where Bryan-College Station’s official temperature and precipitation records are kept, the July total is just over four inches (4.27″ through July 31).
A look into July rainfall and the stark contrast between this year and last year.
One positive to the month – there were no recorded instances of triple digit temperatures! Our warmest day capped off at 97° right at the top of July, and July 2nd and 17th followed suit.
On the contrary, July 25th kept afternoon sunshine at bay and didn’t even escape the 70s, with a maximum temperature of 79° reported at 8:00 a.m. that morning. This set a record for the lowest maximum temperature on that day and shattered the previous record established 65 years prior.
July 2024 brought temperatures mostly below average, especially to end the month
When it is all said and done, July brought us a good mix of rain, heat, and even threw in a hurricane. As we cross the threshold into August, we are met with temperatures in the 90s, sticky humidity, and Saharan dust. Looking ahead, a typical August attempts to back off a degree or two by the time it’s said and done, but with that, the sunshine will retreat as well.
August rolls back the sunshine and tries to slightly cool by the end of the month.
