Human Trafficking Awareness on campus Wednesday sharing Alumna’s story

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A human trafficking awareness event is happening on the Texas A&M Campus Wednesday night.

Special guests include a pair closely connected with Texas A&M who share their story. The event is hosted by One More Child, an organization that provided care services to over 250,000 children and individuals just last year.

The forum will include leaders from One More Child, Texas A&M former student Deshae Wise and her mother, Rebecca Bender. Bender was a victim of human trafficking when Wise was very young, today they work to highlight misconceptions about human trafficking.

“There is a lot of brainwashing and a lot of coercion. People don’t even recognize in themselves when they are being trafficked because this is something that is so misunderstood,” Wise said.

“It’s like you were in quicksand and you don’t realize it and you were sinking lower and lower and it is really hard to get out,” Bender said.

The forum will start at 7 p.m. at Rudder Auditorium. You can register for the free event here.
