Hotels and restaurants have their hands full as the King of Country is set to perform at Kyle Field

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Bryan-College Station area is expecting around 100,000 people for the George Strait concert Saturday, leaving hotels and restaurants booked and busy.

Greg Stafford, General Manager at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center, said they’ve received thousands and thousands of calls trying to book a room with them for this weekend since it was announced that George Strait was coming to College Station.

“This is like a football game for us, a big football game for us. We’re going to have over 100,000 maybe over 110,000 folks over there so it’s going be jamming” said Stafford.

The Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center is completely booked on Friday and Saturday nights.

“They’ve come from all over and we couldn’t be more excited, it’s going to be a great, great weekend,” said Stafford.

Since their rooftop pool overlooks Kyle Field, they are preparing for guests to watch the concert at their hotel.

“I expect that there will be some folks that will hang out up there, particularly some of the earlier acts, and head over a little bit later,” said Stafford.

The Texas A&M Hotel is not the only amenity with their hands full. Great Escapes RV Park in Bryan said they have 650-700 guests staying at their resort this weekend alone.

“From the time the concert went live, I think we sold out the cabins in about 30 minutes,” said the General Manager at Great Escapes RV Resort Bryan College Station, David Donnelly.

Checking in 162 people Friday, they have all hands on deck.

“Most people are going to arrive today, we are going to have all of them here in the park today and tomorrow, and then there will be a big checkout, a big wave as you would say, Sunday afternoon,” said Donnelly.

Great Escapes said they have over 30 people on the waitlist today hoping a spot will open up to stay at their park.

It’s not just hotels seeing more people.

Juantita’s Tex Mex Cantina, located in Century Square, is less than a mile away from campus and just under 2 miles from Kyle Field.

The General Manager of Juanita’s, Simon King, said they are completely booked with reservations for dinner on Friday and booked all day on Saturday.

They’re also expecting a large crowd for brunch on Sunday.

King says they’ve received roughly 10-20 calls per day in the last two weeks from people trying to book a reservation at their restaurant.

“We have some extra tables and chairs on back up, or stand by, in case we do need to get some extra tables set,” said King. “As far as staff, we are staffed like it’s a football game day. This is one of the biggest weekends of the summer and so we are preparing like it’s a football game day.”

King said their reservations have been for party sizes anywhere from 6 to 20 people, so they will be packed all weekend long.
