Gumbo chairty cookoff in Wixon Valley helps to raise money for Phoebe’s Home
WIXON VALLEY, Texas (KBTX) – In a spicy showdown of flavors and community spirit, the 9th Annual Charity Gumbo Cook-Off in Wixon Valley has wrapped up, leaving a savory mark in the history books. The Brazos County Go Texan team called “Brazos County Hall of Fame Cookers” emerged victorious from the simmering competition, beating 14 other teams in their pursuit of the coveted bragging rights.
The event last Saturday was a fundraiser for Phoebe’s Home.
Mayor Jim Soefje said on Wednesday that the final fundraising tally is still underway as sponsorship dollars continue to pour in and they’re already looking forward to next year’s event.
Phoebe’s Home is a shelter and program that helps survivors of domestic violence and is run through Twin City Mission.
Among the sponsors: Guaranty Bank and Trust, Flying V Rentals, Against the Grain Band, Aggieland Slingshot Rentals, Rocking S Outdoors, Chuck Konderla and Fifth C Fine Jewelry, Fallen Riders Foundation of Brazos County, Tuck’s Tavern, Joe’s Place, Smitty K’s, Yesterday’s, Libations, Barbara and James Riley, and more.
