Grimes County native accused of killing his girlfriend’s tenant in San Antonio
GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – A Grimes County native has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend’s tenant in San Antonio.
Shawn Pivonka, born and raised in Iola, is accused of shooting and killing David Beck on December 14th in San Antonio, according to reports from KSAT-TV.
Beck’s landlord, Pivanka’s girlfriend, was reportedly trying to evict Beck but he successfully appealed the eviction, which then led to a dispute.
San Antonio Police said things escalated when Pivanka got involved outside the victim’s home.
“[Pivanka] Made a fist, and like swung towards the victim, stopping inches before his face, the victim stepped back and said ‘hey, take it easy, don’t hit me,” said Stg. Washington Moscoso, with the SAPD.
Beck then pulled out his gun in defense, causing Pivanka to also pull out his gun and shoot Beck– killing him on the scene.
Police say Pivanka stayed on the scene but was not arrested immediately.
San Antonio police said it took them a while to go through the evidence of what happened on December 14th.
Police say some of the cellphone and surveillance video they obtained was partially obstructed which delayed how fast they could determine what happened.
“We had video surveillance, but it was kind of blocked. But yeah, they did obtain the secondary video which made things a lot clearer, which is why there was a kind of a delay in obtaining a warrant for the arrest,” said Moscoso.
Six days after the incident, an arrest warrant charging Pivanka with murder was issued on December 20th.
He’ll have a preliminary hearing in a Bexar County district court on January 31st.
