Get ready for ‘The Prom’ at The Theatre Company of Bryan-College Station

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Theatre Company of Bryan-College Station wants to invite you to “The Prom.”

That’s the name of its upcoming production, which kicks off Friday.

The show takes you to Edgewater, Indiana, where a high school prom is under fire.

Emma Nolan, who’s being played by Macie Steer, wants to take her girlfriend, Alyssa Greene, to prom, but the community wants to stop that from happening.

“All of her classmates and school friends, sort of, exclude her after she comes out as gay, and she’s very isolated,” Steer said.

When four Broadway stars learn about this, they decide to take action. The four team up with Nolan to give her the prom experience she wants. In the process, the community changes and becomes more loving and accepting.

The show’s director, Alanna O’Connell, said the show is impactful and is full of takeaways.

“‘The Prom’ is about standing up for what you believe in and who you are and being who you are loudly, believing in yourself and not hiding yourself because of what other people might think of it,” O’Connell said.

The show is PG-13 and runs until June 16.
