George Bush 100th Birthday Celebration wraps up with concert
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Thursday night was the community concert wrapping up the three-day celebration of what would have been George H.W. Bush’s 100th birthday.
The concert began with a preshow and then performances by Aggies Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett. There were food vendors and water stations throughout the concert area.
“It’s great to be back with Lyle and play some of those songs and just celebrate being here in Aggieland and H.W. Bush,” Keen said.
Keen said he is very fond of George H.W. Bush, the way he handled office, and his friendliness towards others.
“I actually met him when I was in second grade a long time ago when he was running for office. So thats been with me for many many years and to be part of this and to experience and be a part of his 100th birthday I’d say is a real milestone in my life,” Keen said.
The stage was set up in front of the museum and the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center in the parking lot.
Hundreds of people set up chairs and blankets to hear the performances and celebrate the 41st president.
“Max and Heather Stalling, so they’re big at the Bugle Boy in La Grange, Texas and so we came out here to see them and also the celebration of George Bush’s birthday party and all that good stuff,” Travis Upchurch, a concert goer said.
“It’s amazing to see them here playing at the George Bush Library. I’ve seen both of these artists all over the world but to see them here back in kind of their home turf where they got their start is always a good thing,” Mark Fecci, a concert goer said.
