Former Mayor of Hempstead sentenced to 6 years in prison
WALLER COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Former City of Hempstead Mayor Michael Shayne Wolfe has been sentenced to multiple years in prison. He was charged with Misapplication of Fiduciary Property, Greater than $300,000.
The District Attorney of Waller County says Wolfe repeatedly approved multiple invoices from a contracting firm without ensuring the work had been done or was up to standard. The total loss to the City of Hempstead for road services to Glover construction is said to be well over $2 million.
On Thursday, February 15, Wolf chose to change his plea to guilty and reached a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office. In exchange for his plea of guilty and waiver of appellate rights, Wolf was sentenced to six years in prison.
Under Texas Law, Wolfe will be ineligible to hold public office.
