Focus at Four: Walker County OEM on Trinity River flooding

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KBTX) – The Walker County Office of Emergency Management announced they received a river Forecast for the Trinity River.

The gauge at Riverside, just to the northeast of Huntsville, is expected to reach a major flood stage by Sunday and will be slow to recede.

Butch Davis, the Walker County Emergency Management Coordinator, said that there are multiple neighborhoods still under water.

“We still have 4 subdivisions that are inundated with water and it covers a lot of Walker County along the Trinity River. We’re checking on most people, whether they need to evacuate or they’re going to stay and shelter in place,” he said.

Davis went on to stress the forecast that is set for the Trinity River on Sunday.

“They’re telling us that we’re going to have two to six inches of rain possibly, and that’s going to drive the Trinity River at Riverside back up into major flood stage. They’re predicting it to even go higher than it was last week,” he said.

Davis said that since he has been in this position, he has never seen this level of flooding.

“I’ve been in this job 20 years and this is the worst I’ve ever seen. The Trinity River went higher than I’ve ever seen, and they’ve released more water out of Lake Livingston than I’ve ever seen in the 20 years I’ve been here,” he said.
