Focus at Four: Visit College Station on soccer game, George Strait at Kyle Field
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – This past weekend, College Station hosted a Mexico-Brazil soccer friendly at Kyle Field. More than 85,000 people attended the first non-football event at Kyle Field since undergoing major renovations a decade ago.
Jeremiah Cook from Visit College Station said it was an overall successful weekend.
“I heard from hotels that Saturday night were really full, that things were looking good Friday as well, but definitely a better Saturday night. But I think the other thing to consider is the Super Regional being in town. There were a lot of things going on that would be drawing people from outside,” he said.
Cook said the parking program the city implemented for this weekend was a pilot program the city will be looking over.
“Part of that is that you’re trying something new and then you go back once you have all the things in front of you and you go back and analyze that and kind of see what it looks like in the future,” he said.
Cook said estimates show the upcoming weekend will be even more busy with The King of Country, George Strait, at Kyle Field.
“We’re hearing well over 100,000 [people] for this coming weekend. So super super thankful to Texas A&M for bringing these events to town. And anything that we could do to help contribute, but very excited about this continued growth in summertime,” he said.
