Focus at Four: Robertson County official discusses storm, fire damage

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Around noon on Thursday, a propane tank fire evacuated homes in Robertson County near Franklin.

Just yesterday, a severe storm that pushed through parts of the Brazos Valley last night left a trail of damage.

Robertson County Judge Joe David Scarpinato said the fire didn’t do any damage, and there were no injuries to be spoken of.

“Franklin fire just elected to let the fire burn. They’re monitoring it, and went around asking people in the vicinity to evacuate, just for precaution. We’re just monitoring the situation which was caused by a lightning strike this morning. Unrelated to last night,” he said.

Scarpinato also mentioned that no further injuries or damage from the storm has been reported since last night.

“Well handled by our dispatch at the time, great cooperation by our Sheriff’s Department. All our Volunteer Fire departments mobilized EMS. We had our city PD’s assisting, and once the storm cleared, all four of our our precincts mobilized their crews, and they worked throughout the night clearing county roads,” he said.

“The majority of the power has come back on. We do have a a cooling center being opened up in the Franklin Fire Station. We’ve got some power outage still in part of the city of Bremont. They’ve got crews mobilized, so they’re on it waiting for additional equipment, and additional contractors to come in to assist,” he said.
