Focus at Four: Day care costs continue to rise after pandemic
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A recent study by Zillow said that parents looking to buy a home here in the U.S. would need to use 66 percent of their income to cover mortgage and child care.
The annual cost of childcare in the United States is over 23 thousand dollars.
The owner of Masterbuilt Kids in Navasota, Brittany Sechelski, said that for her the number is not surprising.
“Childcare is not cheap, and quality childcare is definitely not cheap. For us personally, our biggest expense is our employees,” she said.
Sechelski said there are a few things to look for when searching for a daycare that is right for you.
“When I go into a facility, I’m going to look at how clean it is. I’m going to ask questions. You also want to meet the director or the owner if you can. Go in and talk to the staff and get to know them before you choose a daycare. And by talking to the staff and walking around and taking a tour, you’re going to get to see how they operate,” she said.
