Focus at Four: City of Bryan booked, busy for spring sports tournaments
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Brazos Valley is situated in a convenient area for out-of-towners. The City of Bryan is taking advantage, and over the next couple of months, the sports calendar is pretty much full.
To discuss the spring tournament schedule, Matt Minahan, the city’s Tourism Event Coordinator, joined First News at Four on Tuesday.
He says the surrounding areas are not only feeling the entertainment impacts the tournaments have, but they are also feeling monetary ones.
“It really incorporates the whole city into these events. As far as economic impact, you touched on heads and beds, some of these events fill up every hotel in the Bryan-College Station community. They eat in our restaurants, they stimulate the local economy and support jobs,” said Minahan.
He went on to say the location of the city has a lot to do with the appeal.
“We’re in a great spot between Dallas, Austin and Houston. The Texas Triangle is what we call it. People love coming here, it’s easy for teams out of those big metropolitan areas to get here, and it all goes back to our great facilities,” said Minahan.
When asked about more facilities, he didn’t have definitive plans to speak of but didn’t turn down the idea either.
“We always have the ability to add more tournaments. It’s never a bad thing to have more events, more people, more tournaments, more spectators in our community. I don’t think we’re at capacity yet, but we’re always looking to have more,” said Minahan.
