Focus at Four: Broadcast meteorology conference influences Brazos Valley forecast
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Board on Broadcast Meteorology and American Meteorological Society is currently holding a conference in South Carolina.
The conference is meant to continue the education of broadcast meteorologists.
News Three Chief Meteorologist Max Crawford was in South Carolina on Friday and took some time out of his busy schedule to speak with First News at Four.
Max said the conference is held every year to gain different scientific perspectives.
“We like to bring in research professors, National Weather Service meteorologists and climate scientists and get a gauge on where they think the industry is, and what things we can be doing to better communicate risks, forecasts and anything that people need to know,” he said.
The topics are put together in a digestible way, to communicate how to understand things like extreme weather and climate change.
“What are some recent findings from some very reputable research studies? What does that mean not only for the lower 48 as a whole, but what does that mean for Bryan-College Station? What does that mean for coastal cities? That has been something that’s been at the forefront of conversations of how exactly do we communicate that,” he said.
