Focus at Four: Brazos Valley COVID numbers rising with summer heat
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – It might be summer, but unfortunately, COVID-19 is not taking a vacation.
UT Health East Texas’ said it has noticed a steady rise in cases.
Brandi Stewart, a family medicine nurse practitioner with HealthPoint, told KBTX there are rises in numbers in the Brazos Valley.
“We’re seeing very similar trends. As school starts, as we have come off of people traveling, we’re seeing that those numbers are also rising,” said Stewart.
A belief among the medical community, including Stewart is this rise can be because people are relaxing on the push to get vaccinated.
“The virus has changed a lot, so we’re not having as severe symptoms, and then, of course, we’re traveling and so people are going out of the country. They’re going and visiting family, we’re getting in large groups, and now we have come in and we’re going to school and we started school,” Stewart listed.
Stewart’s advice is to be vigilant during this time with your own health, and your family’s.
“This time last year, we did see schools closed because of going back to school. Now is the time to definitely be mindful. Get that hand sanitizer in everybody’s backpack, make sure that you’re starting to remind ‘hey, let’s cover our cough whenever we cough or sneeze,’ and just kind of enforcing that now so that in a couple of weeks, we’re not really seeing it explode,” added Stewart.
