Firefighters respond to fire at Washington County church
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Flames have consumed a church building Monday near the Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site in Washington County.
Firefighters responded to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church on FM 1155 at approximately 1:30 p.m.
At 4 p.m. firefighters from multiple agencies were still on scene extinguishing hot spots.
Washington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Casada tells KBTX that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time but no injuries have been reported.
The department is receiving mutual aid assistance from the Navasota Fire Department, Chappell Hill Vol. Fire Department, Meyersville VFD, the Brenham Fire Department, and Washington County EMS and the Washington County CERT team.
A sign outside the church says the congregation meets mostly on weekends and Bible Study is hosted on Wednesday nights.
It’s unclear if anyone was at the Church when the fire started.
