Firefighters rescue driver from horrific crash on FM 974

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Firefighters are being praised for their life-saving efforts on Saturday following a serious one-vehicle crash on FM 974 near Wheelock Road that left the driver pinned inside his crumbled pickup truck.

According to Brazos County District 2 VFD, around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the driver of a 1-ton pickup hauling a large flatbed trailer had a mechanical issue that caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and into a culvert, essentially folding the vehicle in half, with the trailer resting on top of the pickup.

It took firefighters nearly an hour to rescue the driver who was trapped inside but they were able to successfully pull him out and he was rushed by a medical helicopter to St. Joseph’s in Bryan.

The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office and DPS troopers were also on the scene to assist with traffic control and the investigation of the crash. No other vehicles were involved. The current condition of the driver wasn’t immediately available on Sunday.
