Fallen trees, downed power lines found across Franklin following storm
FRANKLIN, Texas (KBTX) – Several areas across the Brazos Valley were under a tornado watch Wednesday night, facing high winds and heavy rain.
The severe weather left extensive damage in Franklin, where reports of downed power lines and fallen trees were heard across the city.
Thursday, residents could be seen assessing the damage.
Lynn Popham’s front yard is covered with tree branches, but he’s focused on the one resting on his roof.
He said the tree knocked a couple of shingles off, but he won’t know the full extent of the damage until he climbs up himself.
Popham will be spending his day trimming broken tree limbs and cleaning up debris.
“The skies turned dark and kind of a green tint, and then the wind picked up. It just really got crazy with the wind and it took a couple of tops down and my trees. So now I got a mess to clean up,” he said.
The damage extends across the city. Downed power lines caused an outage at Roland Reynolds Elementary School, forcing the district to cancel classes.
Crews are already hard at work making the needed repairs.
Robertson County Judge Joe David Scarpinato said they’re on their way to having power fully restored.
“We do have, the majority of the power has come back on. We do have a cooling center being opened up in the Franklin Fire Station,” he said.
