Experience science in action at Texas A&M’s Physics & Engineering Festival

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M University’s Department of Physics & Astronomy is inviting you to unleash your inner scientist.

The Department is hosting its annual Physics & Engineering Festival Saturday at the Mitchell Physics Building (MPHY) & Mitchell Institute (MIST).

They’re located on campus at 578 University Drive in College Station.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will include over 200 interactive demonstrations and a science circus.

Instructional professor Tatiana Erukhimova said the event caters to all ages.

“They come here to enjoy,” Erukhimova said. “They play, and they learn about science and physics and engineering without even recognizing that they’re learning something.”

The Physics & Engineering Festival will also feature guest speakers Nicholas Suntzeff, Greg Chamitoff and Beatriz Villarroel.

Suntzeff is a Texas A&M professor of physics and astronomy. His lecture is titled “The Greeks, Einstein, and Alien Worlds: The Importance of Eclipses.”

Chamitoff is a NASA astronaut and aerospace engineering professor at Texas A&M. His lecture topic is “Human Space Exploration for Everyone.”

Villarroel is an associate professor at the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics. Her lecture is titled “Vanishing Stars and the Hunt for Extraterrestrial Artifacts.”
