Early childhood education program looking to fill spots
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A free early childhood education program is looking for families to sign up.
Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters, HIPPY, is a program through the Texas A&M School of Nursing that has instructors ready to help prepare kids as young as two for school.
Instructional leaders will come to your home to provide weekly packets to help educate kids. But, the group doesn’t work with the kids, they work with the parents on how they can teach the kids over the 30-week course.
Stacy Brown, the program coordinator, says this is an important piece of ensuring parents are hands-on in childhood education early.
“The greatest thing I think is that we have that intentional time with our children and they know for this 10 or 15 minutes a day, it doesn’t have to be a long time, but we are going to work together and my goal is to make you better and to have fun while we’re doing it,” Brown said.
The program has expanded to educate two-year-olds through four-year-olds. There are spots available for this year, parents can apply online here or learn more at the website here. The program is offered in English and Spanish.
